Ellicottville Plans on ‘Getting Down’ this Summer
~Spectacular Summer Music Festival Returns with KC and the Sunshine Band~
Ellicottville, NY – It’s time to get out your “Boogie Shoes.” The Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the line-up for Summer Music Festival 2011, including a headline performance by “the founder of the dance revolution” himself, Harry Wayne Casey, better known as the leader of KC and the Sunshine Band.
“We’re thrilled to have KC and the Sunshine Band confirmed as our ‘grand finale’ Sunday performance,” said Brian McFadden, Executive Director of the Chamber, noting that the three-day Summer Music Festival (formerly known as the Summer Festival of Arts) is a truly unique outdoor concert event.
Scheduled for July 1-3, the event kicks off with a Friday evening open air concert at Holiday Valley Ski Resort, followed by a return of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday. Led by conductor Matthew Kraemer, the family friendly program includes popular patriotic selections as well as music from Disney. The evening concludes with an extraordinary fireworks display while the 80-piece orchestra – an amazing display of its own, positioned on the side of the ski slopes – performs Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and marches by John Phillip Sousa, including a breathtaking rendition of Stars and Stripes forever.
On Sunday, KC takes to the stage for what’s sure to be a disco revival featuring hit songs like “That’s the Way (I Like It)” and “Get Down Tonight,” music that has been featured at nearly every major sporting event in the world, says McFadden, including the Super Bowl, World Series the The Indianapolis 500.
Rounding out the weekend is an Arts and Craft show from 10 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on Jefferson Street, the annual pet parade at 11 a.m. on Washington Street on Saturday, and the ever-popular Strawberry Festival on Sunday.
